ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Change of command

Okay kiddo, imagine a school classroom where the teacher is in charge. She tells everyone what to do and makes the rules. But now, imagine that the teacher is leaving and a new teacher is coming in. The new teacher will take over and be in charge. This is called a change of command.

Now let’s take this example to a higher level like in the army. The army is like a big school with lots of soldiers, each with a leader or boss who makes the rules and tells them what to do. When the boss is leaving and a new one is coming in, that’s a change of command. This happens for many reasons such as the boss getting a new job, retiring, or being promoted.

During a change of command, there is usually a formal ceremony or event where the old boss gives a speech to say goodbye and wish everyone well, and then the new boss gives a speech to introduce themselves and to let everyone know how they will lead the group.

It's important for everyone in the group to listen and follow the new boss because they are the new leader, and they will make new rules and goals for everyone to follow. Everyone in the group needs to work together and support the new boss to make the group successful.
