Dalit (outcast)

Dalit is a word used in India to describe people who are considered to be outcasts or treated unfairly because of their social status.

Just like in school, some kids may be more popular or have more friends than others, in India, people are divided into different groups based on their occupation or family background. Dalits are at the very bottom of this social hierarchy and they are often looked down upon and discriminated against.

This discrimination can happen in many different ways, like being denied certain jobs or education opportunities, not being allowed to enter certain temples or restaurants, or even being physically attacked or abused.

It is important to understand that this kind of discrimination is not fair or right, and everyone should be treated with respect and kindness, regardless of their social status. People are people, no matter who they are, where they come from, or what they do for a living.
