Declaration of Arbroath

A long time ago, there was a group of people called the Scots who lived in a place called Scotland. The Scots were ruled by a king named King Robert the Bruce. But there was another group of people called the English who didn't like the Scots and wanted to take over their land. So the Scots got together and wrote a very important letter called the Declaration of Arbroath.

The Declaration of Arbroath was like a big letter that said, "Hey English people, we're not going to let you take over our land. We're our own country and we have our own king." The letter was written by important Scottish people called nobles and they wrote it in a fancy way with very important words.

The letter was sent all the way to the Pope in a very far away place called Rome. The Pope was like the boss of all the churches and he was a very powerful person. The Scots wanted the Pope to help them because they knew that he was an important person who could talk to the English and tell them to leave the Scots alone.

The Declaration of Arbroath is still very important today because it shows that the Scottish people are special and they want to be their own country. The letter is also important because it helped the Scots to keep their land and keep their own king, even though the English wanted to take it away.
