Fossil fuel power plant

Imagine a big machine that needs something to make it work, kind of like how your toy car needs batteries. But this big machine is as big as a house and it needs a lot of something to make it work. Instead of batteries, it needs something called fuel, which is kind of like food for the machine.

This big machine is called a power plant and it helps make electricity that we use in our homes, schools, and places where we work. The power plant uses a special kind of fuel called fossil fuels, which are formed from dead animals and plants that lived millions of years ago.

The fossil fuels are usually found deep inside the ground and people have to dig for them like how you dig in the sand at the beach. Once they find the fossil fuels, they bring them up to the power plant and burn them to make heat. This heat is like when you put your hand on a hot stove, it makes things warm.

This heat is used to make steam, which is kind of like when you take a hot shower and the bathroom gets all steamy. The steam moves special turbines that are inside the power plant, which create electricity.

But using fossil fuels to make electricity can be bad for the environment. When the fossil fuels are burned, they let out something called carbon dioxide, which is a gas that can make the air dirty and change the climate. So, scientists are trying to find new and better ways to make electricity that don't use fossil fuels.
