Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a way of getting energy from the ocean. OTEC works by taking the warm water near the surface of the ocean and the cold water from the deeper parts of the ocean and using them to make electricity. The warm water is used to heat a liquid like ammonia, which then turns into a gas. The gas spins a turbine, like a windmill, and this creates electricity. The cold water from the deep ocean cools down the gas, so it can turn back into a liquid and be used again. With OTEC, we can get clean energy from the ocean and help reduce the amount of pollution caused by burning fossil fuels.
