ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Valid but illicit

Okay kiddo, so let me explain to you what "valid but illicit" means.

When someone says something is "valid", it means that it is real or it exists. Like when you draw a picture and your mom says it's a valid representation of a cat, it means that your drawing looks like a real cat.

But when someone says something is "illicit", it means that it is not allowed by the rules or laws. For example, if you take a cookie without asking, that is an illicit action because it's against the rules.

So when we put those two words together, "valid but illicit", it means that something is real or exists, but it was done in a way that breaks the rules.

For example, let's say your big sister wanted to borrow your toy without asking you first. She took it without your permission, which is against the rules. But even though she didn't ask you, she still really had your toy, so we could say that her having it was "valid but illicit".

Does that make sense, kiddo?
