ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Vikings

Vikings were people who lived long, long ago in a place called Scandinavia, which is in the northern part of Europe. They were known for being really tough and brave, and they liked to explore and conquer other lands.

They were called Vikings because that means "pirates" or "raiders" in their language. They used big boats with oars, called longships, to travel across the sea and to attack other towns and villages. They even went all the way to places like England and France to fight and take over!

Vikings also liked to trade things, like furs and silver, with other countries. They had their own gods, beliefs, and stories that they passed down through generations. They were really talented at making things like jewelry, clothes, and weapons.

One of the most famous Vikings was named Leif Erikson. He sailed all the way from Scandinavia to a place called North America, which he named Vinland because there were so many grapes growing there. He was one of the first Europeans to visit North America!

Overall, Vikings were really important in history because they helped shape the world we live in today.
