The civil rights movement was a time between 1865 and 1896 when African Americans fought for their freedom and to be treated equally by the law. During this time, African Americans protested, marched, signed petitions, and boycotted - which is when they refused to buy something - to demand equal rights like being able to vote, go to the same schools as White people, and get the same good jobs. A lot of amazing African Americans helped make a difference, like Harriet Tubman who freed slaves and Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat on the bus. People of all colors helped the civil rights movement, and finally, freedom and justice won the battle.
