Civil rights movement (1896–1954)

The Civil Rights Movement (1896–1954) was a long time period when many people in the United States worked together to allow everyone to be treated equally, no matter their race, color, or country of origin. During this time period, African Americans and other people of color fought for their civil rights or rights to equality under the law. They did this by protesting, speaking out, and suing in court. They also wrote books and started organizations to push for change. Finally, the United States passed laws that made sure everyone was treated equally and had the same rights, regardless of their skin color!
