ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frequency band

Imagine a big plate of candy with different colored candies on it. Each color represents a different type of candy with a different taste. In the same way, sound is made up of different frequencies, which are like the different colored candies on the plate.

A frequency band is a group of frequencies that are close to each other, like a group of candy that are all the same color. Each frequency band is like a different flavor of sound.

For example, when you listen to music on the radio, your radio is tuning into a specific frequency band. The radio can only pick up the frequencies in that band, just like you can only taste the candies on your plate that are the same color as the one you choose.

Different devices use different frequency bands for communication. For instance, your phone uses a specific frequency band to transmit and receive wireless signals, just like how you use a specific color of candy to make a certain flavor.

So, in short, a frequency band is a group of frequencies that are all similar to each other and used for different purposes, kind of like different flavors of candy on a plate.
