Jerky is a kind of food made by drying out meat. So let's say we have some beef, we first cut it into thin strips. Then, we add some salt and spices to it to make it taste yummy. After that, we leave it out for a while to dry.
Drying means removing all the water from the meat, and we do that by hanging it up in a dry place, maybe a warm room or outside in the sun. It takes a few hours or even a whole day for the meat to get dry enough to eat.
When it's all done, the meat is much tougher and chewier than before it was dried out, and that's why we call it "jerky." It's a salty, savory snack that you can take with you on-the-go or pack in your backpack for a long hike or camping trip. Just remember to drink lots of water when you eat it, because jerky is very salty and can make you thirsty!
