ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Protest

Protesting is when a group of people get together to show that they don't like something that's happening. It's like when you don't like the color of your bedroom and you tell your mom and dad about it. Except protesting is when a whole bunch of people go to a place, like a park or in front of a big building, to say that they don't like something that's happening in their community or in the world.

Sometimes, people protest because they want something to change. Like when you want your parents to buy you a new toy or your teacher to let you have more recess. People also protest when they think something is unfair or when they want to make their voice heard about something that's important to them. They might carry signs or chant things to show how they feel.

Protesting is an important right that people have in many places around the world, because it helps them to express their opinions and to stand up for what they believe in. When people protest, they hope that their message will be heard, and that the people in charge will listen and make changes based on what they've said.
