Tsagaan Sar

Hello there! Today, I am going to tell you about Tsagaan Sar, a special celebration that takes place in Mongolia.

Tsagaan Sar is a big holiday that happens in Mongolia during the Lunar New Year. It is also known as the White Moon Festival, which is celebrated in honor of the earth's survival through another winter season.

There are many traditions and customs that happen during Tsagaan Sar. For example, people wear their best traditional clothes, and families gather to celebrate by eating special foods such as sheep's tail, dairy products, and other delicious dishes.

They also exchange gifts like snuff bottles, tobacco, candy, or maybe even money in tiny envelopes. The elders are respected and receive gifts first.

During Tsagaan Sar, Mongolians also visit with family and friends, offer their gratitude and best wishes. The festival lasts for three days, Full Day and Half Day, and Prosperous Day. The second day is the most important one where families visit their relatives and friends.

It is also a time for Mongolians to clean their homes and do some spring cleaning, which is similar to the Chinese New Year. Burning incense and candles is a part of the cleaning process, and it is believed that it will bring good luck and fortune to the family.

In conclusion, Tsagaan Sar is a very important celebration for people living in Mongolia. They use this time to honor their traditions, culture and show their love and gratitude for their family and friends.
