ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cubic foot per second

Okay, so you know how when you turn on the faucet, water comes out and you can see and feel it flowing? Well, when we talk about cubic foot per second, we are measuring how much water is flowing out of that faucet every second.

A cubic foot is a special way of measuring how much space something takes up. It's like a big box that is one foot tall, one foot wide, and one foot deep. So when we say cubic foot per second, we're measuring how many of those big boxes of water are flowing out of the faucet every second.

Now, people use this measurement because it helps them understand how much water is moving in a river or a pipe or anywhere else you might have water flowing. It's like counting how many cars drive by in a minute to understand how busy a street is.

So when you hear people talking about "cfs" or cubic feet per second, they're just trying to understand how much water is moving through a certain area in a certain amount of time.
