The original thirteen colonies were the group of colonies that the people who lived in Great Britain decided to start in North America. These colonies each had their own laws and governments, but they were all part of a bigger group known as the British Empire or the British Colonies. Each of these colonies were a part of the British Empire, and all of them had the same kind of flag, which was the British flag with thirteen red and white stripes. These thirteen colonies were the first group of colonies that the British people started in North America. The colonies were named after the English kings and queens of the time and included New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Georgia. These colonies eventually formed the United States of America.
